If you decide that CBT is for you and start therapy
then you and your psychotherapist will set a Therapy "Contract".
This is an informal verbal agreement between you and your theraist
and it will include the practical arrangements such as the timing of
sessions and the fees.
Location: We are located in Victoria, London and Monument
(near London Bridge) in Central London. Other locations can be arranged
with your therapist. Sometimes it is necessary to see patients at home
and this can be arranged. You might also find it more convenient to
see a therapist at your work place and this can also be arranged. Therapy
supported by telephone and email contact has also been successful and
can be offered.
Times of Session: At Efficacy we can arrange appointments
at a time that is convenient to you. This means that taking time out
to see your therapist does not have to interfere with your existing
commitments.
Fees: For individual private clients fees are payable
on a session by session basis in advance. Fees for organisations (e.g.,
for individual, group or trainging sessions) are payable by invoice
/ cheque. Session fees vary depending on the time, day and location.
Fees will remain the same for the duration of therapy. Assessment /
discharge reports incur an additional cost, as do arrangements to see
a therapist at your office or home. Most sessions last 50 minutes. Click
here for current fees.
Confidentiality: All therapists are
bound by their professional code of conduct regarding confidentiality.
A therapist will only breach your confidence if you say something that
implies danger to yourself or others.
Communication with External Agencies: If you give permission
we like to inform your Family Doctor that you are receiving CBT treatment.
Also at the end of treatment we aim to send discharge notification –
indicating the effects of treatment. This service is free of charge.
With your permission full psychiatric assessments can be provided for
medical and legal reports.
Self Help: Patients are actively encouraged to do work
between sessions as this is an important part of getting better.
Cancellations: All booked appointments are charged
at the agreed session rate. Psychotherapist will attempt to reschedule
cancelled appointment and your psychotherapist will let you know how
to make contact and what arrangements there are for cancelled appointments.
Emergency: Your psychotherapist will provide details
of contacting the service in a crisis or out of usual office hours.
In exceptional cases your therapist will help you formulate a plan of
what to do in an emergency.
Termination of Contract: Both parties have the right
to terminate a Therapy contract at any time.
Gift and Presents: Sometimes patients feel that they
would like to show their appreciation by offering a gift to a psychotherapist,
as well as the agreed set fee. This is especially true at festive periods.
To avoid any misunderstandings, or a conflict of interests, Efficacy
has a ‘blanket rule’ of therapist politely declining any
gifts or presents. However, Efficacy also understands that some people
would like to express some appreciation for the help they have received,
and experience has shown that in some cultures that declining such offers
carries possible offence. As a compromise, if they so wish, patients
can make a small donation to a charitable organisation of the psychotherapist's
choosing.
Medication: CBT is compatible with most medications.
For some disorders a combined approach (medication and therapy) has
been shown to work best. If this is the case your psychotherapist will
discuss your options with you.
